I'm a big fan of the gift card. If you are just clueless as to what to shop for, I think everyone appreciates free money at their favorite store.

Going to have to agree with this. Unless I go up to a person and ask them specifically what they want, a gift card is their present. And its easy.

Although, I prefer cash over a gift card that locks me into a specific retailer.

True. My husband's favorite quote is from Dilbert. "A Gift Card. Just as thoughtless as money, but more useless."
I'm of a differing opinion. I think if you take the time to actually get them a card to a place you know they like to shop, it shows some thought and they will enjoy using it.

We know pretty much what we are getting. It has been a hectic Christmas Season this year. We have been out shopping and seeing stuff that we need then and there...so we bought them and are wrapping them knowing what they are. If we waited until one of us is not there at the store the item would be gone. Heck with it....
I just told Mrs Dood that she bought me a new Dell Axim 51v PDA. He He He...or is it Ho Ho HO? The PDA is on sale at Dell....it is a new model. They are always pretty good with pricing when they have brand new models.
EDIT: However our Kids do not know all they are getting...for example our Son is getting a New Video iPod. He will be surprised!

Ahhh the age old debate. My parents are simple. Get my father guns get my mother ipod. My babies. well get them everything. As for myself id really like a 50 dollar pre paid credit card and a new curl bar as mine is starting to rust and suck terribly. a 500 lb wave bag would be nice too to replace the bladder i busted in the old one.

Yeah like what games? I honestly don't know what to ask for or get, yeah getting stuff would probably be no problem for other people. But they keep asking me what they are going to get me and I just shrug I really don't know what I want, I guess that shows I'm not so greedy

Ask for a facelift.
Seriously, I keep an Amazon wish list for this very reason. There's always a book or movie I remember that I would like to have, but always forget what it is when someone asks. When I do remember, I just go to Amazon and when someone asks, there it is.

I asked for the Blues Brother's Movie (the original) and some Neil Gaiman books. Everybody does need somebody to love.

So I went snooping and decided to link my mom and brother's behavior's to the size of a present under the tree for me. It's a PSP Should I feel like an idiot for having this, or is this a good thing?

I'd be angry that it's not a Nintendo DS. OK, I wouldn't really be angry, but I wouldn't look forward to trying to return it after Christmas for a DS and some games. That's just me, though. Congrats on the PSP if you're into those.
I voted gift card/cash earlier, but surely you have must have some idea of what those in your immediate family like/dislike? They can always return it for something else, but at least you put some thought into it.
